The Data Analyst role combines hands-on technical work – such as coding, SQL development, and data wrangling – with responsibility for strengthening the organization’s data policies, frameworks, and governance practices.
Reporting jointly to IT and Operations, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that data is accurate, accessible, secure, and aligned with business objectives.
Salary will be based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capabilities.
Job Specifics:
- This is a hybrid position, with on-site requirements determined after hire.
- The role is a blend of technical and strategic work: primarily hands-on coding, SQL development, and data wrangling, with room for advancement into data governance, policy development, and broader data management responsibilities.
- Standard schedule: This position is generally a 9–5 role with some flexibility, offering stability while supporting occasional project deadlines, and evening work.
Responsibilities:
Data Analysis & Engineering:
- Design, write, and optimize SQL queries for reporting and data extraction.
- Develop scripts, tools, and pipelines to clean, transform, and manage large datasets.
- Build dashboards, reports, and visualizations to support decision-making.
Data Governance & Frameworks:
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of organizational data policies, standards, and procedures.
- Support the implementation of a data governance framework that ensures compliance, security, and quality.
- Assess current data practices and recommend improvements in line with best practices.
- Define and document data ownership, stewardship, and accountability models.
- Participate in risk assessments, audits, and regulatory compliance reviews related to data.
Collaboration & Advisory:
- Work across IT, Operations, and business teams to promote data literacy and responsible use of data.
- Assist in designing training and awareness initiatives related to data handling and governance.
- Act as a point of contact for data-related inquiries and escalations.
Requirements:
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Priority Skills:
- Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one programming/scripting language (Python, R, etc.).
- Experience with data wrangling, cleaning, and preparation for analysis.
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks or related principles.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in financial services, credit union, or regulated industry sector.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure) and modern data tools.
- Understanding of data security practices and regulatory obligations (e.g., privacy, retention).
- Background in process improvement or audit support.
